Wavemakers is a chamber jazz project from Norway and New Zealand, led by pianist and composer Alex Ventling. The band met in Trondheim in 2021 and have played consistently around Norway, featuring in Oslo Jazz Festival 2023. As the name suggests, Wavemakers is a quartet building large momentum, forming a ‘groove-organism’, unfolding motives and rhythmical cells, where every member has an equal role in the musical tapestry. Within the unique instrumentation, the music melts between meditative improvised sound textures to explosive composed arrangements. The band members are all rising-stars in the current Norwegian scene and can be heard in projects such as Tuva Halse Quintet, Lav Sol, Amund Stenøien Quartet (ASQ), Liv Andrea Hauge Trio etc.
